OCT. 16, 2010

TUESDAY, October 19, 2010, SAN DIEGO, CA
"Sheriff of Contention" PLAYED TWICE AT THE MAIN THEATER
at the Lone Pine Film Festival October 8,9,10TH.

OCT. 16, 2010

By Tom O'Mary

THURSDAY IN LONE PINE (Pre-Festival, Oct. 7, 2010)

1. I check in with the Festival Host Robert Barron at the Museum.
The Museum, which specializes in western themed films is hosting the Festival. Our western movie DVD,
"Sheriff of Contention" is made available for showing in the museum's main theater on Friday.
2. The other theater in town is the Lone Pine High School auditorium, showing old westerns and silent films.
3. I go door to door up Main street putting posters for "Sheriff" into merchant windows
in order to build an audience.

FRIDAY IN LONE PINE (First Day of Festival)

1.I talk about paintings with western actor Buck Taylor (Tombstone, Gunsmoke) who is also an
artist showing his paintings during the Festival.
We are Listening to top western talent
Tom Hiatt and his Sundown Riders playing live in the museum.
2. Various Tour buses cue up outside the Museum
to take western film fans out to sites where the great movies were filmed.
3. I meet other celebrities at the
Chamber of Commerce, Andrew Prine (Gettysburg), Bill Smith (Red Dawn),
Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5, How the West was Won),
Robert Dix (Forbidden Planet).
Earnest Borgnine and Hugh O'Brien
were present but I didn't get to see them.
4. At 5:00 PM "Sheriff" plays to an audience at the
Museum's 100 seat special western theme theater,
and receives applause at the end.
Q & A session afterwards proved productive.
The creator of the feature film "In the Eyes of a Killer"
Mamie Jean Calvert of Ambra Films,
tapped me on the shoulder during the ending
credits before the lights come up and remarks,
"I think you have something here."
Follow up meetings with Mamie and her husband may lead to a distributor at
the American Film Market (AFM), Nov. 7-14, 2010.
Further talks are ongoing. Mamie's films are distributed by
Film Planet Entertainment of Encino, CA.
Her film premiers at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, Nov.7, 2010.

SATURDAY IN LONE PINE

1."Sheriff" does not show again until Sunday at 3:00
after the closing celebrity parade, so it is a free day
of exploration for me.
2. I watch other films shown in the main museum theater, including "Gunslinger"
a western short starring Peter Shroeder, "The Tracker" a short film, and "Friend of the Devil" another western
TV Pilot starring Eric Heisner,
Billie Beach Jr. and Al Bringas
3. I have a private conversation with cowboy
poet Owen Badget about America today.
4. Larry Maurice, cowboy entertainer and MC reacted to Tom O'Mary's
last name and launches into an irish brogue routine putting everyone in fun spirits.
5. I listen to legendary screen writer Teddi Sherman ( Then came Bronson, Mannix,
Wagon Train, Sea Hunt, and many more TV shows)
as she does Q & A after a documentary about her life plays
in the main theater. Teddi, operates her acting school
in Malibu and is the daughter of the famous producer Harry Sherman
who created the Hop-A-Long Cassidy movies.
6. I watched a silent film with live organ accompaniment
at the High School auditorim to close the evening.
"Imagine playing an organ for two hours straight and
you can't make a single mistake!"

SUNDAY IN LONE PINE

1. More tours into the Alabama Hills. 2. Sunday Festival Climax parade.
3. Rodeo Bull escapes and terrorizes the town, delaying showing of "Sheriff."
4. "Sheriff" plays to a full theater. Q & A afterward was rewarding as excited audience
members raced to tell me the things they would change.
Example: "There should be blood on Riley's dead body",
" Murderer would not stab the victim from above...but would use underhand method",
" Young Von Hoff girl
should only cry out 'Sheriff!' once."
All good comments.

Sunday evening wind down... Larry Maurice, Owen Badget and Tom Hiatt
all perform poems and music
to a crowd of seventy people as everyone says their goodbyes
by the campfire in the city park.
